God’s father of Amun
The papyrus AnkhefenKhonsu, son of Ankhefenmaat, “God’s father of Amun‑Ra, king of the gods”, now preserved in the Fondation Martin Bodmer, originates from Thebes and dates to the 21st Dynasty.
It entered Martin Bodmer’s collection in the 20th century as part of his wider interest in fundamental religious and literary texts and has become one of the key objects in the museum’s Egyptian holdings.
As of 2020, the papyrus has undergone thorough conservation, stabilising the support, revising earlier repairs, and allowing a clearer reconstruction of its original extent and layout. In terms of content and format, the roll belongs to the Theban recension of the Book of the Dead and is closely related to other 21st‑Dynasty manuscripts from the same priestly milieu, with a columnar hieroglyphic script and a relatively restrained set of vignettes, culminating in a scene in which ʿAnkh‑ef‑en‑Khonsu stands before Osiris, presenting offerings at an altar.
